A freshwater lake in the hot northern Rift, ringed by cliffs and fig trees — boat birding, hippo at dusk, and very few other vehicles.
Baringo is a freshwater Rift lake in the dry north, ringed by cliffs and escarpments and alive with birds — over 470 species recorded, from fish eagles to the rare Hemprich's hornbill on the nearby crags. Hippos and crocodiles hold the shallows, and boat trips at dawn are the way to see it.
It is an off-the-beaten-track stop, quiet and local, often paired with Bogoria's hot springs and flamingos next door. Good for birders and anyone chasing a slower, less-visited corner of the Rift.
