The Maasai Mara is Kenya's flagship reserve — short-grass plains in the far south-west, an unbroken extension of the Serengeti. From roughly July to October the wildebeest migration crosses the Mara and Talek rivers here, but the resident big cats, elephants and plains game make it extraordinary year-round.
We base most Mara trips in the private conservancies bordering the reserve, where night drives, walking safaris and off-road viewing are permitted and vehicle numbers are capped. Expect dawn starts, unhurried sightings, and Maasai guides who grew up on this land.
